Twenty-years ago headshots had not yet entered the mainstream; headshots were prints used by actors and models to find agent representation. Today, headshots fall into several categories including corporate, acting, modeling, business or simply for personal branding purposes. A headshot, photographed in the studio or on location, features the face and is characterized by clean lighting, a confident pose, and a simple background. Today, headshots are used for a variety of purposes including social media, online profiles, resumes, advertising or publicity — wherever a person wants a competitive advantage.
Today headshots are not just for actors and models. Your image is often your first impression to clients and employers. So, do you need a headshot? Is your face online or in print? Could you benefit from improved visibility, career growth, financial success, or enhancement of how others perceive you? A professional headshot is no longer an option.
Sure, anyone can take a headshot. That doesn’t mean you should count on your friend or a selfie.
There are two skill sets a photographer needs to create great headshots: Technical skills and soft skills.
The technical side includes fundamentals like exposure, focus and lighting.
But the soft skills make or break the shoot.
You can be your best only if the photographer engages, listens, knows what you want, and helps you have fun. If you’re not relaxed your expressions will show it.
If you’re not happy with past portraits, it’s likely because you were posed and told to smile. Our style is conversational and collaborative, where you are coached into great, anxiety-free images.

The Session — When we meet, tell me about your needs and expectations. What are your headshots for? Relax! There is no time limit, but generally, we’ll need about an hour. We’ll do different looks — clothing and lighting changes. As I shoot the pictures I’ll show you the results real-time to ensure we’re getting what you want.
Select Your Favorites — When we finish the shoot, we’ll sit down and review the images. This process is usually easiest with a second set of eyes; you’ll see nuances and features you might not have noticed. We’ll take as long as we need to make selections for your final retouched images.
